AQUACEL® Ag dressing application guide
AQUACEL® Ag Hydrofiber® Dressing with Silver, Sterile
can be used to manage partial-thickness burns.a,b
PREPARATION
Evaluate the burn, debride and cleanse.
APPLICATION
AQUACEL® Ag Hydrofiber® Dressing with Silver, Sterile
is applied directly to the burn. Overlap adjacent dressing edges by at least 5cm to allow for shrinkage. If the dressing shrinks or shifts, exposing areas of burn, apply additional sheets. Layer dressings if the burn is highly exuding, and secure with a non-occlusive dressing (such as sterile gauze), tape, or retention bandage.
Burns tend to be highly exuding in the first 72 hours. If AQUACEL®Ag dressing has not adhered to the burn then it can be replaced. If the secondary dressing becomes saturated, it should be replaced leaving AQUACEL®Ag dressing in place.

REMOVAL AND REAPPLICATION
The burn is inspected by removing the secondary dressing and observing the adherent AQUACEL®Ag dressing . The AQUACEL®Ag dressing will take on the color of the exudate. If parts of the dressing have not adhered, this may indicate infection or deepening of the burn. Cut away these areas and assess the burn. AQUACEL®Ag dressing can be left in place for up to 14 days.b

HEALING
AQUACEL®Ag dressing is designed to detach during healing and re-epithelialization. Trim the detached dressing with scissors. AQUACEL®Ag dressing will continue to detach as healing occurs. If dressing removal is required prior to detachment, water or sterile saline may be used or advise the patient to shower in warm water.
The dressing will harden over time due to drying out. To ease movement for the patient, particularly over joints and fingers, gently moisten the dressing with sterile saline.
